Jack Kerouac Book Posters
A suite of posters inspired by the four Jack Kerouac books that have made the biggest impression on me; On the Road, The Dharma Bums, Desolation Angels, and Big Sur. The designs aim to capture the essence of his often chaotic, free-wheeling lifestyle, and free-flowing writing prose, but in a more minimal and symbolic style. Abstract images were created by taking crops of 'colliding squares'. I then manipulated these compositions in order to reflect themes from each book. The form and colours used are also suggestive of the experimental live Jazz from the era (1950’s) which Kerouac’s life beats to the rhythm of.  Each design features one of the authors many poignant and poetic quotes, each relevant to the specific book. The image on the 'On the Road' design symbolises a perspective view of a road ahead. Whilst the composition on 'Desolation Angels' reflects the Desolation Peak lookout post that Kerouac worked at with the double-summited peak of Mount Hozomeen in the background. The Bixby Creek Bridge on the Big Sur coast of California appears in the 'Big Sur' design. And 'The Dharma Bums' poster image reflects the peak Kerouac and his buddhist friend scaled in their search for enlightenment.
